A Northridge Patient’s Guide
Dental implants are natural looking prosthetic teeth that are attached to your jawbone, which means they won’t move out of place. Instead, dental implants provide the same type of stability and security as natural teeth. No other smile restoration offers this combination of comfort and convenience. With dental implants, you can go back to eating all your favorite foods again and you’ll be able to smile with confidence.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are an entirely new approach to restoring missing teeth. Instead of just sitting on top of your gums like dentures or a dental bridge, dental implants are surgically placed in your jaw. The bones in your jaw develop a bond with your implants that is similar to the way your natural tooth root functions. This prevents the implant from moving out of place as dentures often do.
Dental implants are custom-made to match your natural teeth, so they blend in with your smile. Another benefit of dental implants is that they enhance the overall health of your smile by promoting jawbone development. Implants also help prevent gum disease by replacing missing gaps in the smile. When left unfilled, these gaps are vulnerable to infection and bacteria formation.
We also provide TeethXpress for patients looking to restore an upper arch, a lower arch, or both. With TeethXpress, we can restore your arch in just one day without the need for bone grafting.
What Is the Dental Implant process?
The dental implant process involves the following steps:
- Your consultation with Dr. Terence Lau or Dr. Casey Lau–Dr. Lau will perform a dental examination and recommend the restoration that works best for you.
- Implant surgery–Dr. Terence or Dr. Casey will surgically place the implant fixture.
- Placement of the implant abutment and crown–After allowing time for your body to become fully acclimated with the implant fixture, Dr. Terence or Dr. Casey will place the abutment and porcelain crown.
